Community Development Project Plans

Below are the current and upcoming projects the Community Development Department is working on.

North Aiple Park:

In 2017 the City acquired the property located at 1513 Main Street North for parkland purposes after a Concept Plan was developed. It is a 15 acre property with ¾ mile of St. Croix River shoreline. It is the intent of the City to restore much of the property to natural conditions and provide passive recreational uses.  Click here for more information

Chestnut Street Plaza:

With the closing of the Stillwater Lift Bridge to vehicular traffic, the Chestnut Street approach to the bridge no longer needs to support vehicular traffic.  Consequently, the Downtown Plan (Chapter 6 of the City’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan) envisions conversion of Chestnut Street between Main Street and the Lift Bridge concourse to a non-motorized civic plaza. Click here for more information

Downtown Parking Efficiency Study:

The purpose of this project is to assist Stillwater’s Downtown Parking Commission identify means to more efficiently use existing parking capacity in the downtown public parking system.  It is the Downtown Parking Commission’s goal to better serve the needs of its customers without the major capital expenditures associated with construction of new parking facilities. Click here for more information

Central Commons:

Central Commons LLC intends to develop approximately 35.3 acres of land into a mixed-use development at the southeast corner of HWY 36 and Manning Avenue, currently located in Stillwater Township. Click here for more information
